victoria heilshorn studio - the best in History
Title -
SS UNITED STATES
Description -
SS UNITED STATES, passenger liner built the 1950s for the United States Lines. She is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the United States and the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, retaining the Blue Riband for the highest average speed since her maiden voyage in 1952. She was designed by American naval architect William Francis Gibbs and could be converted into a troopship if required by the Navy in time of war. The United States maintained an uninterrupted schedule of transatlantic passenger service until 1969 and was never used as a troopship.
Description Source -
Library of Congress
Year -
ca. 1955
SKU -
LAS-0135
*Sometimes photographer information is available. Originally developed as a proofing system for the traditional lithograph, the superior quality and brilliance of the giclee was soon realized. Also, giclees are produced digitally, saving generations of the detail-robbing experienced with older methods such as negatives and plates. This is why giclee, dye sublimation and similar processes have become the gold standard of photographic production in the 21st century, and are employed by the majority of today's reputible photograpic and printhouse developers.
How
do I know your image description is accurate?
We strive to make our photo descriptions as accurate as possible. Descriptions are taken directly from the U.S. Library of Congress, National Archives, or other sources as noted. In many cases, these institutions hold the original negatives and state the ascribed notes directly from the original photographer. Therefore, we use these institutions as our standard of authority on description accuracy. We are not responsible for errors and we will not participate in disp
