Description
SS United States - United States Cruises (The Richard Hadley Era) - Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) ShipyardDEMOLITION PLAN - C - Deck - Aft. Dated 20 Dez. 1984
FOLD OUT SIZE: APPROX 33" high x approx. 146" long / FOLDED SIZE: 9.75" wide x 11.25" high
This HDW plan would have been apart of Hadley's second and most ambitious plan to return the SS United States to sea as a full time cruise ship. Her 1952 outward profile would have changed significantly with the addition of decks and extensions, etc. Had this conversion gone forward, the U's length would have increased to 1,005.5 feet and her gross tonnage increased to 60,000 tons.
See photos: I have done the best I can with the photos - The paper plan is in good condition for its age but has staining, tears here and there and of course - it's delicate. I only opened this up to show those interested that the plan is fully intact. As those who know the United States well - C Deck was where her original pool is located (and remains to this day) as well as various working and storage areas and machinery rooms (including her steering gear room). Some of the U's C Deck spaces, to this day, retain bits and pieces from the heyday - ice machines, signage, equipment, etc.
Please ask any questions you may have before bidding. Sold as is - no returns. I will insure for the amount of the final auction price and ship via USPS Priority Mail.
