1950’s Japanese Import ~ Germanium Diode
    Crystal Radio Set
    Warehouse Find ~
    Unopened in Original Box
    This small (2 ½ by 1
    ½
by 1 inch) radio needs no batteries. It is a “Crystal Radio Set” and works on a Germanium diode crystal. It actually pulls its own power out of the air from the AM radio waves to operate. The 1950’s Japanese crystal radios have a collectors following of their own because they are so unique. Rarely do we find several dozens of one type “Still in the Original, Unopened, Dime Store Box”.
It is simple to operate. It has an ear plug for listening. It also has a “Ground” clip attachment. This clip must be clipped onto a good electrical ground to attract the AM radio waves out of the sky. A water pipe, fence post, etc. Anything that has a metal rod going deep into the ground. The antenna is one of the wires that goes to the earplug. It can pick up any AM radio station that is nearby, and some of the powerful AM Stations it can pick up for miles. Because the earplug antenna wire is only a few feet long, weak or distant stations won’t come in well. However a longer antenna wire is all that is needed! It is simple to add an auxiliary antenna.
NO BATTERY OR ELECTRICITY EVER NEEDED.
This clever little radio comes with complete instructions. One dial tuning. The secret is the "GERMANIUM DIODE". Because it works on minute power it gets from the radio waves, it won’t pick up long distant or low power stations well, and will not work in a metal building. If you want to listen to farther stations, or live in a metal building, there is a place on the radio to connect an antenna extension. Rarely do we find several dozens of one type “Still in the Original, Unopened, Dime Store Box” and in the Large Wholesale box that the Dime Stores bought them in!
There is no guarantee that you live close enough to an AM station to receive it loudly. These were recommended in the early 1960’s for bomb shelters because they need no electricity. In the early 1950’s, they were just starting to understand plastics better. The earphone wires are rubber coated, the radio case is hard plastic. If they touched each other for the 65 years in storage, there will be a slight mark where they touched. We test each one before we ship it to ensure it picks up the nearby AM broadcast.
It has been wrapped in a plastic carrying pouch (Colors Vary) in its original box for over 65 years. You get the next one,
AS IS, Right from the Large Wholesale Box. Just Like the Dime Store Stocked Them in the 1950’s!
The descriptive cardboard box has typical warehouse handling bruises and minor nips as seen in photo. Some moisture damage to the graphics, not real serious. The 6th photo shows the worse case cardboard box. NO FADING! It Never Saw Daylight. The original instruction sheet is included. The cardboard box has only been opened once, so
I can test every one before shipping.
    We received this advice from a customer;
"I am amazed at this tiny Miniman crystal radio. I have a few Japanese crystal radios that use little high impedance earphones like this (rocket radios, satellite radios), but I have never had one that performs as well as this. This is the first time I have seen a little Japanese crystal radio that uses an aluminum variable capacitor for tuning. It is selective enough that I can receive and separate six San Diego area AM stations. For sales to collectors, it might be a good selling point to photograph the back opened up to show the variable tuning capacitor."
We gladly took his advice and added photos to the description of the inside workings of the ingenious little gadget. Thanks our friend. The last 4 photos, The inside of the radio, is for the technical collectors. The first of the last is so you can see how such precision can be done on a miniature scale. The interleaved aluminium fins in the tuning capacitor are supported by a ball bearing shaft. That maintains their precision.
The last 3 photos show the precision location of the interleaved aluminum fins of the tuning capacitor that rotate between each other without ever touching. This precision is combined with the precise location of the thin aluminum fins. The special "Basket Weave" coil, on a Ferrite Core  isolated by a cardboard tube, combined with the Germanium diode and the precise, adjustable capacitor, give you a very loud radio that can isolate one station from another very easily and precisely. The extra high impedance in the earplug is made by thousands of turns of wire smaller than a hair. This creates loud volume. This radio and the other "Germanium Diode" crystal radio we have in the eBay Store (The Union) are the strongest, loudest crystal radio receivers I have ever seen in that small of a space.
You Will Not Be Disappointed !
We personally test each one before shipment to ensure it will pick up an actual, local AM radio broadcast.  Color combinations vary.  It is small and light, We ship by First Class US Mail.
    We have a limited quantity.
    Order early to avoid disappointment.
