Description
Up for auction is this interesting photograph of H-D’s design maestroWillie G. Davidson
photographed during a terrain event (Jack Pine enduro?) in the 1950s. He is seen standing next to a
1954 Harley-Davidson KH
. We believe it to be a more recent photograph.
Harley debuted a completely new motorcycle, the Model K, in 1952. It was a sporting motorcycle that featured a 45 c.i. (750cc) side-valve V-twin engine. It was a modern machine, featuring a hand clutch, foot shift and a swingarm with shock absorbers. The engine was a thorough development of the old side-valve motor, delivering more power then before. A race version of the bike won Daytona in 1953 (see our auction of a photo of that machine).
Only two years after its introduction in 1954, Harley upgraded the engine. The K’s motor grew in capacity to 54 cubic inches, and the KH was born. That displacement, equal to 883cc, would become legendary for Harley. The KH would receive an overhead valve engine in 1957. It had the same 883cc displacement of the KH motors. It was the start of a model series: the Sportster.
This is your rare chance to own this non period photo, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 8" x 10" (ca.
