    Description

Clay Chimp Sculpture Bookends by Lora Woodhead Steere Acclaimed Paleontologist
Presented are a fabulous pair of hand sculpted bookends in the form of very realistic and quite large great apes or chimpanzee monkeys! As you can see, these were produced with a very rustic appearance, with lots of hand-created texture and seemingly random brush strokes of color. How wonderful for any Steere collector, studied naturalist or fan of the chimp and other wild creatures.
Note that these are heavy, sculpted from solid clay.
Each bookend is signed on the back of the base by the artist, the late Lora Woodhead Steere* of California.
Their condition is excellent. The sculptures are undamaged. The felt on their bases shows some wear.
Dimensions: About 8 inches tall by 5 by 3 1/4 inches.
Total Weight: 8 lbs 4 oz (3742.4 grams)
*Lora Woodhead Steere (1888-1984), was a legendary artist, naturalist, and beloved first teacher at the famous Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts (ISOMATA), now called Idyllwild Arts
